Tip #1: Changing the Navigation Key Shortcuts

Each of the four Navigation keys (up, down, right, left) can be set as a shortcut to an application or menu.

To change the shortcuts, go to Menu > Settings > Phone > Shortcuts. Select the Navigation key to be changed, and press the Options soft key. Select Change, and choose between None, My Stuff, AppCenter, Contacts, Recent Calls, Create New Message, Mobile Email, My Messages, IM, Media Player, Wallpaper, Ringtone, Calendar, Tasks, Bluetooth, Record Audio, Converter, Settings, Voice Recognition, Alarms, World Clock, Calculator, Games, and Security.

Tip #2: Unanswered Push to Talk Calls

Remind customers that while unanswered or declined voice calls will be directed to voicemail where the caller can leave a message, unanswered Push to Talk calls do not go to voicemail.

Tip #3: Rejecting a Push to Talk Call

Users can reject a PTT call without even opening the phone. When an unwanted PTT call is received, the user can push and hold the Volume key on the left side of the phone until the external screen displays Call Ended.

Tip #4: Converting a Push to Talk Call to a Wireless Call

Convert an in-progress PTT call to a wireless call by touching the Options soft key and selecting Convert to Cellular. The user’s PTT call will become a wireless call. However, the other caller’s status is not affected unless the participant also converts the call to cellular.

Tip #5: Refuse Anonymous and Advertising Messages

Users can block multimedia messages that are sent anonymously or ones that the phone identifies as advertising. To enable these features, go to Menu > Messaging > Messaging Settings > Multimedia Message > Receiving Options.

Select Reject Anonymous to check the box beside it. Repeat with the Reject Advertisement option. Press Save to update the messaging settings.

Tip #6: Water Resistant vs. Waterproof

The Samsung Rugby II is water resistant – not waterproof, which means that it can withstand conditions up to a certain extent. It is made up of components that can withstand water, such as blowing rain and high humidity, and can even survive limited submersion in water.

Tip #7: Using GPS to Set a Pedestrian Route

AT&T Navigator blazes a trail not only for drivers, but for pedestrians too. To retrieve a walking route rather than a driving route, press the GPS shortcut key.

Select Drive To, and enter an address. As the GPS begins plotting the route, press the Edit soft key and choose Route Style. Scroll to Pedestrian and select Go. AT&T Navigator will display the route, along with distance and estimated walking time.

Tip #8: One-touch Browser Launching

When in Idle mode or on the Home screen, simply touch the center Navigation key to instantly launch the web browser. To launch the browser while using other features on the phone, press the and scroll to Mobile Web.

Tip #10: Activating the Camera

Because the Samsung Rugby II is a PTT phone, it doesn’t allow for an additional key on the side of the phone for accessing the camera. The camera can be activated by going to Menu > My Stuff > Tools > Camera. Or, users can press the left soft key to access Shortcuts. By default, the camera is the first shortcut listed.

Tip #11: Customizing the My Shortcuts Key

When pressed, the left soft key accesses My Shortcuts, and by default, it houses nine shortcuts, with three remaining empty to be customized by the user. Scroll down to an empty selection and press the Options soft key, and Assign.

If your customer wants to share a specific website with a friend, he doesn’t have to leave the browser. From MEdia™ Net, just press the Options soft key, then choose Copy URL to Message > Send To, enter the person’s phone number, and press Send.

The Make UR Tones menu lets your customers create customized ringtones from full-track songs. Select Menu > AT&T Music > Make UR Tones. Use the up or down key to make your selection. Follow the onscreen options, then press to purchase the song. When the song is purchased, use the Navigation keys to edit the ringtone and press to download this ringtone to the handset.

Tip #10: Search for Phone Number During a Call

To search for a phone number in the address list during a call, press Options > Address Book, highlight the entry, and press the View soft key, or enter the first few letters of the contact in the search field, highlight the correct selection, and press the View soft key.

Tip #11: My Stuff Shortcut

Press the left Navigation key from the home page to access My Stuff.

Tip #12: Setting Phone To and From Silent Mode

Tip #1: Quick Activation of Silent Mode

If you need to change your phone quickly from ring to silent mode, slide open the QWERTY keypad. Press the Space Bar key down until the phone vibrates and confirms “Silent Profile On.”

Once Bluetooth discovery is enabled, select Search to find compatible devices. Select the device and enter the required passkey, and press OK.

Tip #8: Watching and Pausing AT&T Mobile Video

While watching videos through AT&T Mobile Video, users can stop watching the video, pause, and then begin watching it again without having to start from the beginning. This can be done through the Jump to Track Time feature.

The Jump to Track Time feature pauses the video, and presents a pop-up screen that lets users enter the amount of time in the video to “jump ahead.”

Select Jump to Track Time.
Use the keypad to enter a value for the hour, minute, and second that corresponds to the video’s timeline.
Press the Jump soft key to restart the video at the designated time.

Tip #9: Utilizing the Multitasking Feature

Users can listen to music while accessing other applications through the multitasking feature. To activate, first press the Shortcut key on the left side of the phone to access the music player. Press Settings and then turn Background Playing to On and then Save.

Select music from the play list. Once the music starts playing, press Minimize to close the music player screen and access other features on the phone.

Tip #10: Using Voice Recognition to Dial

To use Voice Recognition to dial contacts, touch Menu > My Stuff > Tools > Voice Recognition. Nuance Voice Recognition prompts with the “Say a Command” screen.
